Today was part one of the two-part journey home. It covered Aulus-les-Bains to Aix-en-Provence, a journey of around 450 kilometres.
Once you reach the motorway (the red line that starts just before Carcasonne) you fly back, but there’s nothing to see. On the other hand the journey to the motorway is pretty slow, but very lovely. The route we took passed through Lavelanet, which I now know is home to the goalkeeper Fabien Barthez (all the more interesting as the region is mad keen on rugby, and football hardly gets a look-in) and in front of the Cathar Fortress of Montségur, which even from a distance was mightily impressive.
It took Forever to reach Aix, on those country roads…
Which leads directly to today’s tune – what else but John Denver and Country Roads?
