A Song a Day – Day 65

My Bike

My Bike 🙂

Yippee! The weather has finally improved enough for me to get out of the house, and go for a bike ride. I haven’t been out on my bike since before Christmas, and that doesn’t make me happy. I hate it when I don’t get regular exercise. I start to feel like the proverbial couch potato, don’t sleep well and get really irritable. The trouble is where we live is really hilly, so there’s no easy way to get back into it. I can only choose between going up and down a hill, or going up and down a big hill.

Today’s tune dates back to my early 20s, when I was living in Guyana (country to the right of Venezuela). For a while I was very much into The Neville Brothers, and particularly their album Yellow Moon. I was thrilled to bits to actually get to see them at the St Lucia Jazz Festival (as cool as it sounds!) one year.

I could have picked any of the 12 tracks on the album, although this one and A Change Is Gonna Come are my favourites. I couldn’t find a good enough version of A Change, so instead here are The Neville Brothers with With God On Our Side, originally written by Bob Dylan.

  1. Time for me to blog catchup!!! This song is new to me, but I like the atmospheric and almost wide open space feel of this song, the gentle voice with the heavy reverb backing is great. You said this was originally written by Bob Dylan – I’m slowly discovering his vast back catalogue. Nice posting and change of pace
